Introduction of program

PhD Psychology at FURC is a full-time research degree programme intended to hone students research skills to highest level so that they are well versed with the current and reigning research skills in their fields of study. Our ultimate goal is to transform our scholars into expert researchers capable of producing research of highest quality where they can break new grounds and publish their works at international forums. This is coupled with our aim to provide them intensive exposure to in-depth understanding of the major frameworks and theories in their respective disciplines. This combination, in our view, is the ideal blend to produce graduates of international standard who are capable of competing at any level with promise of success.

Objectives

The main objectives is to produce competent researchers and trained psychologist who can benefit society in different ways. The scholars are trained in the core theoretical, practical and research related areas of Psychology which enables scholars to practice Psychology in a more scientific fashion.

Scope of program

Psychology is influential in almost every walk of life. Its applications are found in hospitals, educational institutions, industries, humanitarian agencies, rehabilitation centers etc. After completion of PhD Degree there is a wide range of professions available out of which most preferred ones are joining Universities, Hospitals. NGO’s and Armed Forces of Country or some other Government Organization that use the services of Psychologists to test aptitude and mental condition of candidates while making recruitments

Prerequisites for admission

Admission criteria is rigorously designed according to rules of HEC, Pakistan.

  • Basic prerequisite qualification is MS/ Mphil Psychology. Clinical Or Applied from HEC recognized universities of  Pakistan or from and foreign university with minimum 3.00 CGPA
  • Candidate must have passed GRE Subject/GAT subject
  • Candidate must have passed university entrance test
  • Candidate must submit research synopsis at the time of university entrance test
  • Interview will be based primarily on synopsis submitted by candidate
  • Final merit will be formulated depending upon academic qualification, GRE subject score, University entrance test score, interview, research publications and professional experience.

Degree Requirement

  • One year residency in which a student has to complete 18 credit hours course work comprising of four subjects (two courses per semester) offered by the department.
  • After course work a student has to defend his/her synopsis/Research plan in front of a committee (organized by the university) and external examiner in the relevant field.
  • After two years of enrolment and before the start of fourth year a student has to pass PhD comprehensive exam and Viva Voce conducted by an external examiner along with head of Department of Psychology.
  • On completion of his/her thesis the submitted copies of thesis will be sent to two foreign evaluators of relevant field for their independent assessment on the work done by the student.
  • The plagiarism test must be conducted on the dissertation before its submission to the two foreign experts
  • Students after receiving positive review by two foreign experts/examiners will defend his / her thesis at a public defense presided over by the two local examiners (Director, supervisor & local examiner).
  • Acceptance/publication of at least one research paper in an HEC approved “x” category journal is a requirement for the award of PhD degree.

Duration of program

The duration of PhD program is 3-8years. The course work for PhD program comprises of total18 credit hours. Each student has to complete 18 credit hours in first two semesters.

Assessment

Assessment of the students for each course (other than a dissertation) in the PhD Program will be carried out according to the following formula:
Sessional(Assignments, Quizzes, Projects and Presentations) = 30%
Midterm Exam = 20%
Final term exam = 50%
